Moonwalk is a small experimental mixed media study created on a wooden panel. Dominated by a large textured moon that occupies most of the surface, the work combines layers of oil paint, found objects, and shimmering diamond dust to create a richly tactile composition. Along the edge of the panel, the words "The planets are lining up, we're bringing brighter days" lyrics from a Michael Jackson song are incorporated into the piece, reinforcing its themes of hope, transformation, and possibility.
Extending beyond the painted surface, a chain connects the panel to a small china dog. Once broken and carefully reassembled, the dog has been repaired with fine lines of gold leaf, referencing the Japanese tradition of kintsugi, where fractures are celebrated rather than concealed. This sculptural addition introduces ideas of resilience, healing, and the beauty found in imperfection.
Blurring the boundaries between painting, assemblage, and sculpture, Moonwalk invites the viewer to consider how treasured objects can carry memories and new meaning.
